Spring water is an alternative source in public drinking water supply, and it also has been known to the effects of human health care because of its unique ingredients. However, some of spring water sites have steadily excessed the drinking water quality standards although many people use the facilities. In this study, we investigated the possible pathways and critical target contaminants groups in the spring water contamination and then verified the suitability of the interpretation through the literature survey. According to our approach, spring water has mountain runoff and ground water as main water sources, and there are various contamination sources like mine, agricultural site, livestock farm, and industrial wastewater. The predicted pathways of pollution well explained the fate of contaminants in spring waters. Previous studies recommended microorganisms, aesthetic matters, heavy metals and anthropogenic micropollutants as contaminant groups in spring waters. Actually, these compounds can be the candidates in the establishment of drinking water quality standard for spring water. Reduction of unnecessary spring water sites and the concentrated inspections for the nominated contaminants were required to maintain healthy spring waters. The suggested results in this study can supply administrators with valuable information related to effective management of spring water facilities.
